Boxing is Love is proud to announce a new collaboration with Wisdom Boxing Gym, a leading community boxing club in Accra, Ghana, with over three decades of heritage.

This collaboration will see Boxing is Love providing the funds to refurbish the physical infrastructure of the gym alongside providing new essential equipment, including a BOXRAW boxing ring and five BOXRAW punching bags, creating a better training environment for young people.
Beyond the physical improvements, the partnership will establish a series of educational programs delivered through boxing training. These programs are designed to help disadvantaged youth in the local community engage with education, build life skills, and navigate their transitions into employment. The initiative combines the discipline and resilience fostered in the ring with practical learning to support long-term positive outcomes.
Spencer, CEO of Boxing is Love, said that:
As CEO of Boxing is Love, I am incredibly excited about this partnership with Wisdom Boxing Gym. What draws me to this collaboration is not just the opportunity to improve facilities—though the new ring and equipment will undoubtedly make a real difference—but the chance to put into practice what I believe boxing is uniquely positioned to do: deliver academic education through the sport itself to help more young people engage with education.
Wisdom Boxing Gym has been serving its community for over thirty years, proving that boxing clubs are vital anchors in neighbourhoods where young people need support the most. What we're building together in Accra is exactly what Boxing is Love stands for—using boxing as a gateway to teach history, sociology, economics, and critical thinking in ways that mainstream education has failed to deliver for these young people.
I really look forward to working with Sarah and Coach Ofori, as their background and expertise are key to maximising the impact of this project.
Sarah Lotus Asare, (Manager, Wisdom Boxing Gym) and PhD student at the University of Ghana, said that :
I am really excited about this partnership because boxing for me has always been about making a difference and positive change. I am confident the learning program will help young people see boxing not just as a combat sport but as an educational medium applicable outside the ring. This partnership with Boxing is Love will give young people in Gamashie access to education through a medium they already love that is boxing. I am confident young people will be very eager to join the educational programs we have planned.

Coach Ofori Asare, Head Coach of Wisdom Boxing Gym and the Ghanaian National Boxing Teams, said that:
This project is very important to me and it has been a burden trying to create a safe, welcoming and educational space for young people here in Jamestown. This partnership with Boxraw/Boxing is Love will help us reach more fighters and bring more young people into a safe space shielding them some of the vices in our community which is very hard
Wisdom Boxing Gym’s mission is to help young people reach their full potential as boxers. Additionally the gym seeks to use its tool of boxing to create social change in Jamestown. We do this by encouraging boxers to take their education seriously, at least complete Senior High School and also learn a new skill to support you in your boxing career.

Coach Ofori Asare has nearly four decades of coaching experience. He has trained several boxers to win medals for Ghana at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and African platforms. Boxing in Ghana is very community-oriented, and it's a medium to reach people in Jamestown and bring them together.
About Wisdom Boxing Gym
Wisdom Boxing Gym is a registered non-profit, community-based educational boxing organisation in Jamestown, Accra. Founded in 1993 by coach Dr Ofori Asare, our gym was created with a vision to make boxing accessible to all, regardless of background, income, or ability.
Over the past three decades, we have evolved into a recognised centre of excellence in both competitive boxing and community development. Our mission extends far beyond the ring: we use boxing as a powerful tool to drive social change, tackling key issues such as poverty, inequality, truancy, teenage pregnancy, and breast cancer awareness through sport-based interventions.
Our Programmes
Wisdom Boxing Gym operates three core programmes:
Boxing Training: Structured, professional training for youth and adult athletes.
Boxing Events: Local and national competitions that provide exposure and motivation for emerging talent.
Personal Fitness & Home Service: Accessible boxing-based fitness options for individuals and families looking to improve their health and wellness.
Our Impact
Since our inception, we have trained over 500 boxers, many of whom have represented Ghana with distinction on international stages:
Four Olympians:
Bastie Samir – Beijing 2008
Issah Samir – Beijing 2008
Sulemana Tetteh – London 2012, Tokyo 2020
Abdul Wahid Omar – Rio 2016
Multiple medals at the African Games and Commonwealth Games
Numerous athletes ranked in the World Professional Boxing Rankings, with several world title contenders
But our success isn’t measured only by medals. We are deeply rooted in our community. Our gym serves as a safe space and developmental hub for children and youth from underserved neighbourhoods such as Gamashie, Chorkor, Bukom, and beyond. Through our after-school boxing programmes, we promote education, discipline, and healthy lifestyles while discouraging school drop-out, substance abuse, and early pregnancy.
